Academic Disqualification

When a student experiences academic disqualification, they are no longer in an "admitted/matriculated" status with CSUF. All students experiencing academic disqualification must complete mandatory advising at least once through either a workshop/webinar attendance, or an individual appointment with an Open University Advisor , before attending degree classes enrolled through Open University at CSUF .

Undergraduate students on academic notice will experience academic disqualification if their CSUF and/or total grade point averages fall below the following GPA thresholds and based on class level (total units earned).

Academic Disqualification by class level
Class Level Units Earned GPA Level
Seniors 90 or more 1.95
Juniors 60-89 1.85
Sophomores 30 - 59 1.70
Freshmen 0 - 29 1.50

The information above is defined in The California State University, Chancellor's Order number 1038

Steps for Regaining Good Academic Standing and Readmission to CSUF

STEP 1

Before getting started and proceeding through this process, take a moment to reflect upon your experience as a student. Assess your individual goals. Do you want to earn a degree from CSUF? What changes can be made that will promote a positive outcome?

STEP 2

Evaluate the primary reasons leading to your Academic Disqualification. Once your individual challenges have been identified, develop a specific plan that will allow you to raise your GPA, make sufficient progress towards a degree, and return to CSUF!

STEP 3

Attend either a mandatory academic disqualification workshop/webinar OR meet with an Open University Advisor. Whether you attend a webinar or appointment it will be an opportunity to review your individual academic plan, learn criteria to be eligible for future readmission to CSUF, consider strategies to repair your GPA, understanding steps to enroll in courses via Open University at CSUF, and formally apply for future readmission at Cal State Apply. Keep in mind when creating your plan, only the first 24 units earned through Open University will count as cumulative units towards a degree at CSUF.
